It's turtles all the way down!
It's turtles all the way down!

Above is an illustration of some science history lore I read in Stephen W. Hawking's A Brief History of Time. Unfounded conjecture stands on unfounded conjecture to form a tower to the sky. You find this in many places: conspiracy theories, official narratives and numerous infomercials. But seldom do you find a more perfect illustration of "its-turtles-all-the-way-down" than in the theory of evolution,

The most egregious violation of science and logic is with sight-unseen blank-check purchase of the Abiogenesis of the first cell. It literally purports that the first living cell arose out of thin air and a puddle of water. How can we believe that something can come from nothing, that life comes from non-life? That is not the universe we live in. The impossibility of life forms appearing in this manner was the basis of Aristotle's argument for the existence of a higher being or uncaused cause. A deep dive into the science behind chemical evolution reads as fantastical as Norse mythology where Ymir's dismembered body is used to create the earth, sky, mountains and oceans. You're looking at an extremely long molecular assembly line/Rube Goldberg machine constructed by blind chance and manned by blind chance. Input a few common place gaseous molecules on one end and millions of years later, you get a living, self-replicating, autotrophic cell on the other end.

Objections are overruled. Point out the impossibilities are you're disdainfully dismissed. Don't bother me with the details; science has discovered that already or will most assuredly discover it in the future. My mind is made up, don't cloud the issue with facts, or the Klingon line "resistance is futile, prepare to be eliminated". But it's not just individuals that suffer cancellation, it extends also to science. So, the theory of evolution violates the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics? Scientists have found a conjectural way around that. The presence of oxygen will not allow select inorganic gases to react to form amino acids (even the pitiful yield generated in the Urey-Miller experiment)? Scientists have found a conjectural way around that. Simply deplete the earth's atmosphere of all its oxygen, and make it methane rich, just like in movie series Space: Above and Beyond. (Forgive yourself for not knowing about the show, it was cancelled after one season due to low ratings). The evolutionary origin-of-life theory continues standing on thin air, powered by wishful thinking, but never losing any confidence in its narrative, in spite of continuous attacks from logic and common sense.

Then we come to the evolutionary tree of life that isn't really a tree, just many lines of conjecture.

Evolutionary Tree of Life
Evolutionary Tree of Life

For the evolutionary tree of life - the trunk and branches have never been found. Quoting evolutionist Stephen Jay Gould, "The evolutionary trees that adorn our textbooks have data only at the tips and nodes of their branches; the rest is inference, however reasonable, not the evidence of fossils. "

A small crisis arose when Dr. Mary Schweitzer discovered soft tissues in dinosaur bones, supposedly 68 million years old. After some years they came up with the idea that the presence of iron from hemoglobin was the explanation for it all. Come to think of it, 68 billion years is a long time to preserve even bones, were there no earthquakes, meteor strikes, leaching from overhead water through the porous sedimentary rock? Each layer of rock means major geological change; seas dry up, seas reappear but nothing happens to the dinosaur fossils?

Conjecture plus millions of years has been the plot mechanism for the Evolution movie series and its remakes for far too long. We have binge watched this for our whole life now and it is getting dull. At this point we might want to switch to Teletubbies: it offers a fresh new look without an accompanying loss of plot plausibility.
