The Aftermath of Murder
After killing his brother Abel out of envy, Cain discovers that the earth has changed under his feet and he feels isolated from God and man. The isolation is somewhat self-imposed as God is pursuing Cain with questions that he doesn't want to answer truthfully. Eventually Cain cries out to the Lord that his punishment is more than he can bear and he fears of the stone age version of lethal injection. God places this mysterious mark on Cain so that he can live out his life fully and deal with the consequences of his actions. As with the first murder, all subsequent murders do seem to unleash deep and unexpected cosmic reactions.
Opposite Day at the Memorial for Charlie Kirk
The Charlie Kirk assassination brought to light huge cracks in our society, beginning with contrasting expressions of grief and glee on opposing sides of the political divide. Then there was the contrast between Donald Trump and Erika Kirk at the memorial service for Charlie Kirk. Mrs. Kirk stated "My husband, Charlie, wanted to save young men, just like the one who took his life...That man, that young man, I forgive him... The answer to hate is not hate. The answer we know....is love, always love." In spite of Trump's characteristic bashfulness, the president did manage to gracefully distance himself from Charlie and Erika Kirk's principled "love your enemies" approach. “That’s where I disagreed with Charlie,” Trump said. “I hate my opponent and I don’t want the best for them. I’m sorry, Erika".
True Crime is not entertainment
In books and film there is genre where murder is for entertainment, either as a whodunnit or "heck, that is a pretty creative way to kill your fellow man". In the Repentance comic book (page 36 is above), I am trying to capture a more honest feel to the act of murdering another human being. One of the intertwined subplots concerns the murder of an abortion provider and the eventual repentance of the murderer. Repentance can be a journey and I hope that the Tyler Robinson, Charlie Kirk's killer, will be afforded the time necessary to make that journey. The fictional killer and real-life killer both share some similarities. Both are killers for a cause. Tyler Robinson's target was both a person and what the person had to say. Melvin Dennis, the assassin in the comic book is a composite of two real people who fought abortion with violence. One who blew up four abortion clinics and eventually turned himself in, the other shot four abortion providers, killing one of them and is now serving out his sentence in a federal prison. More can be found here.
Another similarity between the real life assassin and the comic book one is that they both are facing the death penalty. There are pro-life Christians that support the death penalty and pro-choice atheists who strongly oppose capital punishment. God in scripture gives a somewhat mixed message on the topic of capital punishment. It is mandated in the Old Testament but God Himself rescues both Cain and the woman caught in adultery from capital punishment. Plus when your own son is publicly tried and executed, your view on such things might change. The Repentance comic book will likely conclude before we know the end of the story for Tyler Robinson.
Turning Point USA
Charlie Kirk was engaging in debate and discussion with those of opposing points of view. He was very successful at it. In a way he paid a similar price to Socrates who also had the habit of asking questions that make people uncomfortable. The Charlie Kirk Memorial points out that the turning point for U.S.A will have to be spiritual rather than political, or at least the spiritual will have to lead. It will occur when people really truly start to see one another, and talk with one another, rather than trying to cancel, deport or shoot opponents. Gandhi observed "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind." An eye-for-an-eye attitude is making much of the world blind to those of an opposing viewpoints. We keep ledgers of recompense owed to us while never considering what we owe others.
Recently my daughter attended a swing dance at the university and ended up dancing with two acquaintances but she didn't recognize them. She explained that she sometimes experiences face blindness. Whenever murder happens literally of metaphorically, there is a face blindness happening also. We don't really see there person we are sniping at.
St. Michael the Archangel Icon
I do have a limited number of hand painted icons of St. Michael the Archangel. They are written on gessoed oak boards, roughly 9.5 x 12.5 inches in size. The pigments used are traditional raw earth materials and ground up minerals and the halos are gold leaf on clay. Photos of two of the icons are below.

Were a Canadian or American reader to donate $150 dollars in their currency to Fear of the Lord Comics, and also supply me with their mailing address, I would send them a St. Michael icon. God bless and have a great day.
